Geophysics GPR provides a wide range of techniques relating to investigations on existing tunnels or surveying along proposed tunnel alignments.
Examples of applications that are routinely employed for Tunnel Investigations include mapping void space around the exterior tunnel walls or accurately positioning the tunnel.
For planned tunnel projects, geophysics can identify and generate continuous shear strength profiles to map poor strengths zones of soils or rock along the tunnel alignment. This allows an improved planning and minimizing conception risk.
Geophysics will play an important role during the three phases: geological investigation, tunnel planning, and execution of tunnel construction. If hazards are well known in advance of a tunnel project the safety of workers will essentially be increased and geological risks will be minimized by means of successful and interdisciplinary cooperation.
